A pressure reducing valve does the opposite job to a relief valve: instead of capping the whole system, it holds a lower, constant pressure in one branch of the circuit while the rest of the machine runs at full pump pressure. Typical uses are clamping and pilot supplies, tool changers, tensioning circuits and anywhere a cylinder must push with a controlled force.
Reducing valves are normally open and close progressively as the downstream pressure reaches the setting. Rexroth DR valves cover subplate and threaded mounting; ZDR / Z2DR are sandwich-plate versions that fit under a directional valve without extra plumbing; 3DR proportional reducing valves let the setting be changed electrically from the machine control. Two-way types hold the reduced pressure only while flow is going forward; three-way types also relieve the reduced line back to tank if a load pushes the pressure above the setting, which matters on clamping circuits.
What we need to quote: type code or material number, the reduced pressure range, whether you need two-way or three-way action, the mounting style (threaded, subplate to ISO 4401, sandwich plate or cartridge), flow rate, and whether an integrated check valve for free reverse flow is required.
